With the development and deepening of the educational reform, colleges and universitieshave gradually established a fairly completeset of aid systems for the needy students. Thesesystems have been playing a big part in the stable development of colleges and universitiesand the society at large. Accordingly, as an integral part of school education, the aid systemsin colleges and universities are more targeted at its education functionthan just atits relieffunction,and that is, such systems are targeted athelping college students to achieve their fulldevelopment by combining the educational objectives with the poverty-relief mission in theimplementation of the corresponding aid plans.This thesis begins with a general introduction to the work-study programs, and itproceeds to explore the connotations and values of such programs by reviewing the historyand logic of Marxistwork-study theories past and present, home and abroad, and last but notleast, the study aims to summarize the essential meanings of the work-study programs. Basedon an analysis of the time backgroundand necessity,Part Three of the thesis focuses on theeducational function and value of the work-study programs and arrives at a conclusion thatsuch programs are of much significance in higher education and students’ growth. Part IVmakes a comprehensive analysis of the current work-study programs in colleges anduniversities and the status quo, with an aim at summing up the existing problems andanalyzing thein-depth causes. It is clearly stipulated in The National Outline for Medium andLongTerm Educational Reform and Development(2010-2020) that "education is to serve thepeople, to be combined with productive labour and social practices, and to train studentsintoqualified builders of and successors to socialism with all-round development of morality,intelligence, physique and art".The last part outlines the possible methods and measures ofsolving theexisting problems. To conclude, the thesis first analyzes the possibilities of solvingsuch problems, and then proposes the solutionsat theoretical and practical levels. The majorsolutions and methods to the existing problems include changing the traditionalideas,expanding the connotation of moral education, strengthening organizational management, guaranteeing the fulfillment of educational objectives, consolidating self-qualityconstruction.
