Patriotism education is an important project of casting soul, which is of greatsignificance for the future of the Chinese nation. The focus of patriotism education is onyoung people, and the main place of patriotism education is school. Study on theeffectiveness of patriotism education in middle and primary schools is of greatimportance. Theoretically, it is beneficial for widening the study of the ideological andpolitical education, providing first-hand material through empirical investigation, andoffering theoretical guidance for the education in middle and primary school. Practically,it helps improve the effectiveness of patriotism education in middle and primary schools,and contributes to the convergence of the patriotism education for various nationaleducation stages.According to the research of Nanyang City, generally speaking, the implementationof the patriotism education in middle and primary schools is vivid and active and themainstream is positive. The majority of students have a strong sense of national identitywith deeper patriotic ideas, stronger patriotic feelings and more rational patriotic act.There also exists the problem of single method and low effectiveness. The content ofpatriotism education, to varying degrees, covers the middle and primary schools in bothurban and rural areas. But due to the impact of material conditions, traffic and concept,there exists great difference in the content of patriotism education for students in middleand primary schools in urban and rural areas. The patriotism education in middle andprimary schools is developing into an interrelated and progressive network fromsingle-dimension and low level. Its content and goals are developing into a hierarchicalsystem from the lack of systematicness and structuredness. Its ways and methods aregetting close to the psychological acceptance characteristics of primary and secondaryschool students. However, the convergence of the educational objectives and content forcognitive is not enough by overlapping with each other. And the educational objectivesand content of emotion and belief is relatively lacked and not related. The educationalgoals and content in will and behavior rely on the blitz which lead to ineffectiveeducationThe achievements of China’s patriotism education in primary and secondaryschools are on putting the: general emphasis on patriotism education activities, planning the implementation of patriotism education program, putting attention to explore thepatriotism education resources, expand the patriotism education on exploring theresources of patriotism education and increasing its ways. As a result, the students havecome to have the patriotic feelings. The disadvantages of China’s patriotism educationare mainly on backward educational philosophy, the lack of predictability and pertiencyand hierarchy. There exist the phenomena of “three mores and three lesses” which aremore forms, less content, more classroom education, less extracurricular activities, moreinput of knowledge, less value guidance. The students’ understanding of patriotism isdeviated and some of the students’ patriotic expression is defective. The reasons for thelack of patriotism education in primary and secondary schools can be summarized as thechanges in social environment, the influence of families, the lagging of schooleducation and the specific characteristics of the students’ body and mind..In order to change the status quo of the low effectiveness of China’s patriotismeducation in primary and secondary schools, feasible countermeasures should be takenactively. To sum up, the measures include optimizing the educational goals to keep pacewith the times; implementing the educational program according to the local conditions;grasping the educational opportunity in the light of its general trend, agglomerating theresultant force of education with solidarity and cooperation.
