“Ordinary high school language curriculum standard (Experiment)”(hereinafterreferred to as the “new curriculum”)explicitly put forward the high school languagecurriculum is divided into compulsory courses and elective courses two parts. It listed thefive series of elective courses and according to the actual situation,each school of variousplace can select topic in these five series.For example we can offer classical chinese novelselected readings, modern and contemporary chinese fiction selected readings,foreignfiction selected readings and chinese-foreign drama woks in “fiction and drama”.As a partof high school chinese curriculum,the teaching aim of elective courses is achievingcurricular goals and improving students’chinese accomplishment.“Chinese accomplishment” became the core vocabulary of the new curriculum standard.What is “Chinese accomplishment” and what kind of “Chinese accomplishment” shouldhigh school students possess are the questions that the paper will explore.Elective course isan efficient way to improve high school students’ Chinese accomplishment, but it isdifficult for the first-line elective classes to get to the ideal state because of factors fromvarious aspects, so the quality of the elective courses can not be guaranteed.“To improvestudents’ Chinese accomplishment” became an empty talk. This paper made someintrospection about the situation of the first-line elective classes and tried to break throughsome problems that exist in the elective courses with the help of some excellent electivecourse cases and to make the elective courses close to ideal state.The opening of elective courses is a complicated process, from the selection of topicsto the setting of curriculum aims, from the formulation of teaching syllabus to the writingof textbooks, from the implementation to the evaluation of the curriculum, every step mustbe accomplished to the designated position so as to guarantee the quality of electivecourses and to improve high school students’ Chinese accomplishment. This paper willtake “A Dream of Red Mansions" as example to talk about how elective courses shouldimplement to effectively improve high school students’ Chinese accomplishment.
