“New Curriculum Standards for High School English Course”promulgated by the Ministry ofEducation of China held a view that the application of Task-Based Language Teaching(TBLT) andcultivation of the students’ abilities to use English are preferred. TBLT is expressed in the conductingsuggestions and required to put into effect. With the implementation of “English Curriculum Standards”,the New Curriculum Standard for English reading class in senior high school puts forward much higherqualification for the senior high schools. At the same time, it pays more attention to the cultivation of thestudents’ communication abilities in English. Consequently the study on TBLT approach is receiving moreand more attention in China. Nevertheless, there is deviation on the understanding its basic concept andmodes to the front-line teachers because of its new introduction, and the traditional teaching method is stilldominant in the classroom.According to the requirements of “New Curriculum Standards for High School English Course” andthe actual needs of, this study from the perspective of TBLT identified the necessity of carrying out TBLTin English reading class in senior high school, thus putting forward principles of task design andconstructing the model of TBLT. The purpose of this paper is to study English reading class in senior highschools by adopting TBLT with regard to the following questions, namely,(1) Does TBLT help to improve students’ ability of reading to some extent?(2) How do the teachers carry out TBLT while teaching English reading in senior high school?The author of this paper select117students of Grade2as the experimental subjects in the HighSchool of Weihui district,60are in the experimental group and the other57are in the control group. By comparatively analyzing the data from questionnaire, interview and test, the author finds that TBLT can beused effectively in English reading class in senior high school. It can improve the students’ interest inlearning English and reading ability, and it proves that it has its own rationality and validity in Englishreading class in senior high schools, thus achieving the goal of application of TBLT in English readingclass in senior high schools.Although the experimental application of TBLT in English reading class in senior high school revealskind of contradiction between TBLT and the present condition of the education in our country,, TBLT isstudent-oriented, and it gives full play to the specialty potentials of the senior high school English teachers,and focuses on students’ individual differences and stimulates students’ interest in learning English, so as tomake them get a sense of accomplishment and self-confidence in learning English. It also raises its all-round qualities and improves ability of English communication during the process of learning English.Therefore, it is a teaching method in senior hing shool worthy of being recommended greatly.
