| Reading comprehension is very important in learning English, so the English Syllabus considers promoting the students' reading comprehension as one of the most important goals in English teaching. Reading is a main way for people to acquire information,study or entertain. What's more, it accounts for a relatively greater part in all kinds of language proficiency test. The author finds out that reading is still the weak point of students in English studying on the basis of her many years' teaching experience. In traditional English reading classes, teachers often explain the language points and students take notes all the time. So reading classes are often boring.The theory of Task-based Language Teaching emphasizes "learning by doing", in which students are engaged in naturalistic learning through participating in communicative activities and accomplishing language learning tasks together with their teachers. It can arouse students' internal demand and develop students' interest in learning English.The purpose of the current paper is to bear testimony to the hypothesis that the task-based teaching method can be used in reading class effectively. The paper studies the theoretical foundation of the task-based language and the theory of reading. It also presents the model and steps of the task-based reading teaching. Afterward, it gives an example of the task-based reading class and explains the purpose of the design. The current thesis has been made as result of carrying out task-based reading class experiments in Qixiu Senior Middle School, with two contrast classes in Grade Two. Testing results indicate:compared with the traditional reading teaching, the task-based reading teaching is more effective in arousing learners' interest in reading and improving students' reading competence. Meanwhile, the author offers some thoughts after the application of the task-based reading teaching method to the peers. So it is beneficial for them to improve English teaching. |
