Task-based teaching method is a method of language teaching tasks oractivities of the organization, more than20years, this method recommendedby many language experts and teachers. In2001, the people’s Republic ofChina has promulgated the new English Curriculum Standard (experimentaldraft), which explicitly advocates task-based teaching method. China hasmany for the study of task-based language teaching theory and practice, onthe application of task-based teaching to improve the ability of the empiricalstudies are still rare reading of junior middle school students, especiallystudents not too good students in our school, how to stimulate theirreading interest and improve their reading ability is not more. Therefore, anempirical study of the writer in my school students conducted a task-basedteaching method in reading in the reading tasks to complete, by students inthe form of promoting students’ cooperation, encourage students to activelyparticipate in the class, enhance students’ interest in reading, to improvestudents’ reading ability, cultivate their independent abilities of reading.This paper first introduces the task-based teaching method andtheoretical basis of task-based teaching and research at home and abroad,and then expounds the relationship and development of task-based teachingand learning. Then, the author design of task, type and implementationprocess are discussed, according to the characteristics of the students I design some reading tasks, made qualitative analysis and quantitativeanalysis.By the method of quantitative analysis of experimental classes andcontrol classes to the level of English reading, English reading interest, butalso through the qualitative research method to describe students’autonomous learning ability of English reading and self-confidence,teacher-students’ relationship and cooperation etc..This study adopts the person teaching edition "new target English"grade seven as materials, students from two classes in No5Railway MiddleSchool in Baotou as the object of study, quantitative research indicated thatbefore the experiment in two classes in the same level of English reading,the whole process of the experimental class adopted the task-based teachingmethod of reading, the control classes teaching method the traditional, afterone semester we found that the students in the experimental class Englishreading level has been improved to a certain extent, but compared with thecontrol class, there are no significant differences in the experimental class,the students’ interest in reading significantly enhanced, independent readingability has improved, in addition, the ability of reading confidence andcooperation to solve the problem of the students in the experimental classhave enhanced. The results show that the task-based teaching method toarouse the students interest in reading, to improve the independent readingability, and cultivate cooperation consciousness, enhance self-confidencehas played a certain positive role, but because of the time is short, small limitations, the experimental class in the improvement of English readingeffect is not significant.
