This thesis use questionnaires and interviews to investigate the Brunei Chinese parents from one of the Chinese Kindergartens in Brunei, aiming at exploring the pre-education conception for Chinese parents in Brunei.Firstly, the author investigates the current situation of the Brunei Chinese parents’ pre-education conception from four aspects, such as the concept of development of children, the concept of pre-education, the concept between parents and children, and the concept of children’s future. The concept of development of children includes four parts, such as the power, the potential, the speed and differences of development. The concept of pre-education includes six parts, such as the importance of pre-education, the sense of responsibility of parents, education efficacy of parents, the content and methods of family education, and kindergarten education. The concept between parents and children includes two parts, such as parent-child relationship and parent-child contact. The concept of children’s future includes two parts, such as the view of talented person and how to become a talented person.Secondly, the author analyzes the characteristics and causes of pre-education conception for Chinese parents in Brunei by combining with their various cultural background. And then finds out, Brunei Chinese parents inherit the simple traditional concept of development of children and absorb the modern concept. Brunei Chinese parents put emphasis on pre-education, and certificate their ideas by modern concept. Brunei Chinese parents see children’s pre-education as their common responsibility, and they share the responsibility with school. Brunei Chinese parents show higher education efficacy. Brunei Chinese parents inherit the traditional content and methods of family education and absorb the modern concept. For Brunei Chinese ancestors, the kindergarten is a new pre-school institution. Brunei Chinese family shows democratic atmosphere, and the parent-child relationship maintains close. Brunei Chinese parents show high expectations for their children’s future, but they believe there are many ways to become a talented person. And they give their children enough right to choose their future.Finally, the author discusses the issues related to the pre-education conception for Brunei Chinese parents, such as the contradictions and integration between preservation of traditional culture and adaption to the overseas reality, between traditional concepts and modern ideas, between different types of families, between intergenerational concepts, between advanced education concept and heavy academic burden. Then the researcher makes a reflection of the research methods and the research itself.
