Investigation And Research On The Status Quo Of Chinese Education In Brunei

Southeast Asia which the largest Chinese community settled in abroad, is also the place that the earliest oversea Chinese education system built in the world. Brunei is a small southeast Asian country whose population is less than five hundred thousands, while the Chinese are over twelve percent of the total population. For the Chinese in Brunei and other countries, the language is the most important carrier of inheriting Chinese culture and the the most important construction of cultural identity. There are a lot of commons for the Chinese education in Brunei, and other countries in southeast Asia.While the political culture, social environment and education policies are so different in southeast Asia that Chinese education in Brunei is different from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and other countries with its unique school running method and operations. Besides, there are also special restriction factors and development problems for current Chinese education in Brunei.I had the privilege of being a Confucius School volunteer from September 2014 in Brunei and teach in the second biggest Chinese school for almost one year, during the working I visited all of Chinese schools and major Chinese community in Brunei.Based on my own class teaching and a series of practice, this paper analyses the Chinese education policy, the construction of Chinese schools, teachers and students and various aspects of situations in Brunei. After the detailed investigation and study, the existing problems and research direction of Chinese education has been done.Over these years, as a result of the limitation of Brunei country policy and the existing problems in the development of Chinese school itself, the current situation of Chinese education in Brunei is eager to be concerned urgently.
