The north and south song dynasty is the second highest peak of commodity economy in ancient China. Under the historical background of rapid development of agricultural production, weaken greatly of farmers’ relations of dependence, further development of urban economic prosperity, the rural population flow of song dynasty emerged at that historic moment. Along with the objective existence of contradiction between human and land, and the pursuit of economic interests for themselves, make the scale of song dynasty’ rural population flow further. Their flow to non-agricultural industries and urban areas temporarily or chronically, had a profound impact on the development of social economy at that time and the progress of the society. This article will focus on the following four aspects about the rural population flow research:The first part mainly combed the flow of rural population flow of song dynasty. Population flow is divided into two parts for combing:occupational flow and spatial flow. About the occupational flow, peasants turned to vendors, craftsmanship and employees according to their own conditions. About the spatial flow, mainly include both country to country and country to town.The second part mainly discusses the causes of the formation of the rural population flow in the song dynasty. Analyzing in detail through the change of economic, politic, ideology and culture.The third part mainly mainly analyzes the impact of the song dynasty’s rural population flow. This effect is based on the above analysis, there are two main aspects: one aspect is advanced concepts of social economy and culture were spread to rural areas, making a kind of new life of the farmers’; another aspect is the song dynasty’s rural population flow provided ample labor resources for the urban development, promoting the further development of urban economy and prosperity.
