| The research object of this article is Sutralamkara-sastra as the object, which isKumarajlva’s translation of Buddhist scriptures, it contains literary studies. It is a literary work, with the nature of Avadana.lt tells the story of Buddhism by way of Avadana. The whole buddhist scriptures has eighty-nine stories. The content is all popular and the plot is lively. It has a value of literary studies.This article consists of four parts. In the introduction, describes the causes of topics,the overview of Sutralamkara-sastra,and the interpretation of Avadana. The first chapter discusses the Sutralamkara-sastra’s purport.It implies Buddhist thought,which contains worship pagoda, with compassion, contentment, listening to the Dharma, repair merit heart for giving, quit Primary Afflictions, and closing to good mentor. In the second part of this rhetoric about the classics rhetoric, including the metaphor, parallelism, and hyperbole. The third chapter about the image of each character, including the Buddha, believers, non-believers as well as women and other image analysis. By contrast with Dirghagama-sutra, describing the difference in shaping Buddha’s characters. In the Buddhist scriptures, Buddha’s image, not only has personified characteristics, but also the characteristics of deification.
