Depending on his historical achievements, Li Jieren has become one of the members amongother Chinese contemporary great masters on literature, which is due partly to his unique choicesof materials for creative work, the cultural elements that influence his creation, and especially hisparticular way to write history, that is, to highlight the effects of daily life to reflect on theprocess of history. He sees restoring the original features of history as his starting point, trying tounearth the populace history that is covered by the elite history, and do it as well as possible.This thesis tries to study Li Jieren’s writing attitude in his “Long river trilogy” from the point ofview of “Light History” in hope of gaining a modest amount of harvest. The thesis can bedivided into three parts which are reasonable inner-related. We are willing to know more aboutLie Jieren’s perception on writing history, how history is presented under his pens and thereasons why he constitute such concepts:In chapter one, the construction of “Light History”written by Li Jieren is introduced. Tobegin with the researcher makes clear the distinction between “Mighty History” and “LightHistory”, specifying Li Jieren’s writing attitude of history in the eyes of the researcher andanalyzing the reasons why he has that kind of attitude. And then the paper cope with how suchspecial writing attitude affects the way he presents the history.In chapter two, three significant constitutional elements of “Long river trilogy” are described,namely space, history, and human beings. This chapter can be further divided into two subparts.Part one studies how some public spaces, such as teahouse and folk celebration, reflect timechanges. Part two studies how some private spaces, such as individual growth of females,relationships between daughter-in-laws and mother-in-laws, as well as between couples.In chapter three, the reasons for Li Jieren’s unique writing attitudes of history are presented,mainly based on theories of culture of Bashu and French naturalistic literature.In the conclusion part, the influence of the history turning point is introduced briefly to showthat such an outstanding writer can’t avoid the fate of being overwhelmed by history.
