The studyfocuses on a comprehensive analysis of the writers’ lives and their works, interpreting thedifficult exploration of seeking self and women’s liberation.Except for Introduction and Conclusion, the paper consists of three chapters.Introduction has mainly discussed the different writing conditions of three female writersand the studies of them conducted by the research community so far.Chapter One separately investigates the causes of fleeing by three aspects: the awarenessof a “human being”; female consciousness in the thirties by the ideology enlightenmentduring the time of May4Movement; and frustration and disappointment in the forties.Chapter Two goes to the path of exploration of modern Chinese female writers one byone.Lu Yin concentrates on the expression of early depression and the lost of Eden.Ding Ling reveals a transformation under the self-reflection from three aspects: earlyfemale themes and independent narrator; writing about the relationship between revolutionand love; the disappearance of female discourse in grand narrative. It vividly shows that DingLing’s path of exploration experienced a process from ‘personal’to a greater self in thecollective, and to a state of selflessness.Xiao Hong’s constant exploration encountered a great many setbacks, but she never stoppursuing, the article tries to give a clear explanation of her persistent quest for ideal love andlooking back to the hometown culture. The third chapter will respectively discuss the ending and revelation from theexploration by the female writers. The female characters in Lu Yin’s works, suffering from the confliction between theideality and the reality and the tragedy by their concept of “Love above all”, have suggestedthat women should take part in the social public work rather than stay in the self-pitysentiment.Ding Ling herself and the female characters in her works were both involved in thesociety, which has revealed that the women’s liberation has to be supported by socialliberation, and the importance of maintaining personality and individual writing. As thewise woman of her age, presciently enough, Xiao Hong has the great modern consciousnessand the frustration of searching for her dream, that casts a veil of color of the existence ofnothingness to show the inescapable loneliness of modern women.
