"The Peony Pavilion" Preposition Research

Peony Pavilion,a famous drama of Xianzu Tang, was created in the later period of Ming Dynasty, which reflects the language prototype of the then dynasty basically. It is of great significance to make an language research especially. This paper considers Peony Pavilion(Edition of1998,published by People’s Publishing House) as a research object and make use of Exhaustive Way of research-after making a sort of data counted by computers,we can make a combination of static description and diachronic comparison,so do quantitive and qualitative analysis.Then,we can make a specific and systematic analysis of prepositions appeared in this work. Meanwhile,we have made a certain research into meaning,syntax and pragmatic function of prepositions as well.Four chapters are included in this paper. The first one is introduction:it mainly introduce some basic knowledge of preposition and Peony Pavilion,the meaning of prepositional research,the general situation of research,research methods,corpus introduction will also be explained. The second chapter is the distribution of prepositions about Peony Pavilionraccording to the semantic function of prepositions,this chapter is divided into four sections,which makes a specific and linear description of prepositions in this work.This part introduce prepositions of place time,prepositions of object、spectrum,prepositions of reasons、basis,and prepositions of agent、patient.Through the introduction of this chapter,we hope that readers can know something about the general distribution of prepositions in Peony Pavilion,so as to pave the way for the description of the third chapter. The third chapter is about the syntax and pragmatic analysis of prepositions appeared in Peony Pavilion:it is based on the analysis of the previous one,which makes a further analysis of syntax function and inner structure of prepositions in Peony Pavilion. We have also made an analysis of the function of topic marker,focus highlighting,text,indistinct appearance,constraint,etc. The last chapter is conclusion:this chapter summaries the distribution and usage of prepositions in Peony Pavilion by the way of chart and text analysis.At the same time,it also summaries some relatively obvious characteristics of prepositions in Peony Pavilion.
