The discrimination of confusable words for foreign students studying in China is an important issue,in which lots of space could be digged from the theoretical construction to the specific word discrimination,and the related research on the basis of corpus is fewer. In the teaching practice, it has been found that the foreign students have confused with the words Xiang, Kaolu, Renwei, and Juede, and could not use the words properly according to the language context. Through investigation on the Beijing Language University HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus, it was found that the foreign students have mistakenly used the pair of Xiang and Kaolu, the pair of Xiang and Renwei and the pair of Xiang and Juede most frequently. Therefore, the thesis is aiming at basing on the investigation of the corpus to research Xiang, discussing the similarities and differences between the pair of Xiang and Kaolu, the pair of Xiang and Renwei and the pair of Xiang and Juede in the aspects of semantics, syntax, pragmatics, and put forth points and suggestions in the areas of teaching materials, tool books and teaching strategies to solve some practical problems and even provide some fresh thoughts to the discrimination of foreign students’ conf usable words.It concludes Xiang into Xiang1with the meaning of thinking, Xiang2with the use of auxiliary verb and Xiang3with the believing meaning. Through the investigation and analysis on the corpus, it is determined that the foreign students have mistakenly used the pair of Xiang and Kaolu, the par of Xiang and Renwei and the pair of Xiang and Juede very easily. It is believed that Kaolv has the meaning of considering as well as the meaning of considering something into and the use of noun, besides it has demands on the thinking objects and thinking depth, which decided the difference between thetwain in the areas of semantics, syntax and pragmatics. Xiang, Renwei and Juede are all Assertion Verbs, and Renwei is a strong Assertion verb with high assertion when expressing assertion, and Xiang and Juede have some uncertainty and are weak Assertion Verbs. Besides, in the area of semantics, Xiang has the semantic characteristic of+imagination, and Juede has+experience. Therefore, in the teaching progress, the strong assertion and high certainty of Renwei, the imagination meaning of Xiang and the experience meaning of Juede should be protruded.The thesis is mainly divided into six chapters.Chapter1is the introduction with two parts and the first part introduces the background, theoretical and practical meanings of the research; the second part summarize and analyze the present situation of the research.Chapter2is the research design comprising of research content and scope, thought and methodology, research character and possible innovation points, corpus origin and description, which mainly introduces the research object, research thought and the fundamental theory and those demands special descriptions.Chapter3divides the use of Xiang into three classifications from the angle of body research of Chines words, and simply introduce the virtual road of Xiang3, and finally it combines the demands of teaching Chinese to speakers of other I anguages, conclude the three uses of Xinag into the Xiang1with the meaning of thinking, Xiang2with the use of auxiliary verb and Xiang3with the believing meaning, and provide difference description on the meaning distribution thereof.Chapter4discriminates Xiangi and Kaolu from the semantic scope combining with the mistake condition of the foreign students and prove corresponding teaching suggestions.Chapter5discriminates Xiang3, Renwei and Juede from the area of Assertion verb and provide methods of discriminating Xiang3, Renwei and Juede with the analysis on the Corpus.Chapter6put forth the points and suggestions from the areas of teaching materials, tool books and teaching strategies through the investigation on the using conditions of foreign students’ teaching materials and tool books.
