| The Chinese vocabulary is a vital angle to study and understand Chinese, an mirror which can reflect the development of China and Chinese, and embody our profound Chinese culture. As a result, studies on Chinese vocabulary are of value. Furthermore, because of the complexity of classification, the flexibility of grammar and the diversity of combination, the verb plays a very essential role in Chinese vocabularies and is always the hot issue among researches.There is one basic way for human beings to describe and understand the surroundings by "observing objects outside, knowing nature inside". And during the process to know and experience nature, the first one is our body. Since mouth is the most important organ for the human to live by, the actions about mouth are the typical verbs, which is of certain use.This research is based on teaching Chinese as a second language, and its object is the mono-syllabic and poly-semantic verbs which indicate the motion of mouth. This article applies the theories of metaphor and cognition, semantics and morpheme analytic method in order to identify the relationship between the original meaning glosseme and the extension glosseme and to sum up a new semantic schema of metaphor. Moreover, combining the corpus and actual teaching cases, this essay puts up with some suggestions, for instance, to put cognitive metaphor into Chinese vocabulary teaching, which can induce foreign students to form their own lexical and semantic field.The full article is divided into seven parts. Chapter One is the introduction dealing with the reason for this issue, the literature review, the research scope, the theories and main research approaches. Chapter Two briefly introduces the meaning system of "kou"(å£)and determines the research scope. Chapter Three is mainly about the diachronic semantic category of "chi"’(åƒ)ã€"han"(å«)ã€"chuiâ€(å¹),basing on Shud Wen Tong Xun DingSheng(说文通è®å®šå£°).Chapter Four combines the modern dictionaries in order to analyze the synchronic semantic category of " chi"(åƒ)ã€"han"(å«)ã€"chui"(å¹).Chapter Five analyzes cognitively the semantic system of"chi"’(åƒ)ã€"han"’(å«)ã€"chui"(å¹)from the point of teaching Chinese as a second language. Besides, it probes into the teaching of mono-syllabic and poly-semantic verbs that indicate the actions of mouth, which is on the base of actual teaching cases of"chi"’(åƒ).Chapter Six summarizes the teaching strategies of those mono-syllabic and poly-semantic verbs that indicate the actions of mouth.
