This thesis inspected acquisition of mandarin mono-syllabic tones of Indonesian,Korean and Thai students, explained the possible reasons of causing thisacquisition,and put forward some pertinent suggestions to tone teaching according tothe errors existing in the mandarin mono-syllabic tones of them.For Indonesian students,it was found that the acquisition of the second tone and thethird tone are the worst of four tones. Primary Indonesian students mix the secondtone and the second tone. intermediate Indonesian students and advanced Indonesianstudents do much better in the acquisition of the second tone,but the pitch value of thesecond tone is much lower than Chinese students.As the third tone,the turning point ofits pitch curve is right,but primary students conduct the the turning point earlier.Korean students from each group mix second tone and the third tone and also fail toaquire the starting point and turning point of its pitch curve.For Thai students,thepitch value of the first tone is too low,and the pitch model of the second tone and thethird tone are mixed.It was found that the fourth tone is the easiest one for acquisition. for students from allof the three countries.We found more pitch sphere error than pitch model error in theiracquisition of mandarin mono-syllabic tones,and they all donnot rise pitch from thebeginning of the second tone.For Indonesian and Korean students,they aquire the firsttone and the fourth tone firstly, then the second tone and the third tone.Thai studentsare different,they acquire the third tone and the fourth tone firstly,then the second toneand the third tone.We found that both of the Korean students and Thai students mixthe pitch model of the second tone and the third tone,but we can easily distinguish thesecond tone and the third tone of Thai students in perception,because their turningpoint of the pitch curve of the second tone and the third tone are right.On the basis of the analysis of the research result,we had obtain the primaryunderstanding about the acquisition of mandarin mono-syllabic tones ofIndonesian,Korean and Thai students.We think that transfer of mothertongue,lack ofknowledge of Chinese tones and teaching materials and method problems mayinfluence their acquisition of mandarin mono-syllabic tones.At last,the author putforward some teaching suggestions such as developing the Chinese languageconsciousness,teaching more knowledge of Chinese tones, extending the period oflearning phonology,using a variety of teaching method and adjusting the traditionaltone teaching order,conducting pertinent tone trainning based on their languagebackground and Chinese level.
