Memory Amy Tan Novel Writing

Amy Tan,the contemporary Chinese American writer,has a special sentiment towards memory. The amnesia that her closest ralative and herself experienced makes her suffer from deep fear and cherishment towards memory,which is helpful for her writing.No matter the contents or the narrative art of the novels,the memory elements penetrate throughout Amy Tan’s writings since the first novel The Joy Luck Club.The research involves all of Amy Tan’s five novels.At the same time, to have a better understanding of Amy Tan,the theory of psychology,sociology,anthropology and so on are applied in this research.This artical is mainly divided into three parts. The first part gives a general description of memory and the relationship between Amy Tan and memory.In detail,the article starts from clarifying the relationship among physiology,psychology, depth psychology, anthropology,sociology and literature,then to comb the direct influence on her writing with the family memory and Amy Tan’s memory writing skeleton. The second part mainly researches on the memory aesthetic representation in the novels,which consists of east and west field, family memory and cultural memory. The cognition towards China in1930s and1940s and the contemporary America is Amy Tan’s social framework of memory writing,within which Amy Tan tells the stories occurred in Chinese-American families and recalls the history of fighting by them. Those stories reflect Amy Tan’s cognition towards Chinese-Western cultural,Chinese Americans’seeking for self-identity and their own voice.The third part focuses on the narrative art of Amy Tan’s memory writing.,applying the narrative thecry,this part takes research on the art of story-telling,time art and the method of combining with memory pieces,through which to further lighting the writer’s instruments to connect all kinds of memories.This thesis trys to go deep into the fiction of Amy Tan through memory writing. The prominent features of memory in the form and content of these novels has its own inner pattern, and to explore and demonstrate them helps to have a better understanding of Amy Tan.At the same time,Amy Tan attains the satisfactory and harmony through going back.
