Generally, the types of Wen cheng-ming ’s painting style can be concluded rough-wen and delicate-wen. The cause of these two types can be understood two spaces:one is the thoughts of the Confucian school, wen-jin metaphysic, and the aesthetical concept of the ku-I; the other is the style influences of Shen-zhou and Chao Meng-fu. This paper tries to analysis the background of Mid-ming ’s political, economical, cultural causes, the Wen cheng-ming ’s thoughts of the Confucian school, wen-jin metaphysic and the aesthetical concept of the "shen" and "yi"(ku-i), and the style influences, in order to explain the two styles of actual works. Finally, I will research the influence of Wen cheng-ming ’s style on his family and Tung Chi-chang, trying to put him in the tradition of literati painting.
