The Delicate Feature Of Decadentism In Aubery Beardsley’s Work

From a western literary concept of "decadent" to a concept of art, from widelyperceived as a negative attitude refined to a keen sense of urgency. After a longdevelopment and evolution, and in the end of the19th century Britain, decadent presentsan people’s dissatisfaction with the Victorian society as well as weak resistance producedby the emotion of wander anguish. As Aubery Beardsley, a sensitive artist have capturedand combined with his own life experience and personality traits, decadent mood getreflect at the end of the century under his pencil. On top of that, it is still recognized as agreat illustration artist who was excellent to indicate the decadence in black and white artafter a few centuries.This paper tries to parse once the Beardsley’s illustrations and influences once again,Not only from the visual language of black and white aspect to seek for means, but alsobases on the viewpoint of the delicacy that Beardsle’s individual creation peak of decadentcharacteristic, and focus the argument that on the evolution of the concept of "decadent"and different meanings. Through the different previous embodiment of decadenttrivialness characteristics as the basis theory, trying to argument the trivial decadencefeeling in Beardsle’s works. During the period of the republic of China,as books illustrationexperience a flourish era with characteristics of the age and development of printing, someof the pioneer artists and intellectual praised highly of Beardsley has been the focus ofresearchers’ attention and discussion in domestic. Second part of this article attemptsthrough the understanding of book illustration about reference and imitate Beardsleygeneral situation during the period of the republic of China, and the unique social formthat book illustration artist had to face to discusses the condition that he was receivedduring this time. In turn to try to draw the conclusion of this article, namely, Beardsley’svisual communication and painting language of decadence in his illustrations with thereference of during the period of the republic of China, on top of the language in the formof black and white as the main characteristics of objects and personnel as the backgroundin this time, but never reached the decadence of the delicate appearance.
