Lu Tiancheng Drama "Qidong Totally Convincing" Research

Lv Tiancheng is an important dramatist in Wanli period of Ming dynasty and he was fond of opera and composing song lyrics since he was a child. His works including legend, drama, fiction, in addition to correction of nearly thirty legends and he also wrote the drama theory monograph "Qu Pin", which was known as the "Double Treasures" together with Wang Jide’s "Qu Lv" in the field of drama, has an extremely important position. But his drama masterpiece handed down only one "Qi Dong Jue Dao". For Lv Tiancheng and his works, academic circles focused more on the research of "Qu Pin" but paid little attention to his drama "Qi Dong Jue Dao" and as so far there’s no systematic research works appeared for "Qi Dong Jue Dao". This article with "Qi Dong Jue Dao" as the center, combined with Lv Tiancheng’s life story and his monograph "Qu Pin " conducted a systems analysis for "Qi Dong Jue Dao" in five aspects, which from its original story, figure, ideologic content, drama structure, and the characters of it’s aesthefics.The story of "Qi Dong Jue Dao" was formed with Yao Dian "as the fountainhead and with the reference of "Mencius","Zhu Shu Ji Nian""Wu Di Ben Ji""Lie Nv Zhuan" and other works. It moved on the prestige emperors Yu, Shun and the loyal and talented minister Ao Tao who has been highly praised by Confucians to the stage and made a change of the historical sage-king image and let them with desires back to the world, which has an unusual meaning. The script with family ethic as the theme, but the drama actually reflected the absurd of family ethics which was a reflection of reality that the ethical chaos and moral degeneration of society was getting worse day by day in late Ming dynasty. In the arrangement of art, it carries on the traditional "Reunion" mode but with an unusual change to make the drama’s reunion ending as the "reunion of the wicked. The plot of the whole works was vivid, novel and fancy, which vividly embodied the aesthetics’characteristics of Lv Tiancheng’s drama that seeking for authenticity, fashion and fancy.All in all, study of Lv Tiancheng’s drama "Qi Dong Jue Dao" can make us have more deep understanding of Lv Tiancheng’s drama creation style and at the same time his profound criticism consciousness can also let us have a clear understanding to some of the late Ming dynasty dramas’unique artistic achievement.
