Lv Tiancheng’s QuPin and Wang Jide’s QuLv were known as twomasterpiece of Ming Dynasty opera theory. Because QuPin was the firstopera theoretical monograph which commented opera writers and worksby critieal form. In addition, it containded many important opera theoryand summed up many important points of the previous generation andanswered a lot of controversy in opera theory. Therefore,QuPin hadimportant and far-reaching influence on contemporary and futuregenerations of opera creation and theoretical criticism. These theory ofQuPin constituted a complete system of Lv’s Chinese opera ideas.This thesis has three chapters. The first chapter of thinking of dramaontology. On the one hand, this chapter demonstrates the nature ofclassical Chinese poetry rules and exquisite language which stressed thatsimplicity of drama language is consistent with popularity of creativemethodsand. On the other hand,this chapter demonstrates the ontology ofopera is both opera and drama. Chapter II study the idea of an integratedarts of Lv Tiancheng.For one thing,this chapter pointed out that theopinion of take opera melody and drama thinking together to make bothperfect was derived from Lv’s idea of an integrated arts. For another,thischapter study that Lv’s idea consider the harmonious nature of the word,tone, plot, actors and other artistic elements.Chapter III study narrativeperformance thinking. This includes two aspects.There are both creationand aesthetic. From the creative aspects,Lv’s thinking including thetheory of plot, structure, character. Their total theoretical characteristics isemphasized to follow the drama law. From the aesthetic aspects, operarealm concept including mood, music, words, things,layout and so on. Inaddition, Lv’s performance concept were showing a deep sense of playline. Obviously,the sense in line with the narrative thinking which pursueequally importantance among story, music and word.In a word, by to answer the controversy, Lv Tiancheng reflected therich drama Ideas and Theories of Traditional Opera in the process of judging people and works. These ideas and theories serve as a linkbetween past and future,and they are so important to guide the dramatheory, drama writing and critical practice of future generations.
