1.1BackgroundWith the rapid development of modern medical technology, more and more lumbar disease patients prefer the operation treatment. Due to many effects during and after the surgery, most patients will show low back pain numbness and muscle strength weak. However residual disease after lumbar surgery does not equal to Failed Back Surgery Syndrome(FBSS). The issue that how to promote the recovery after operation stands out and receives wide public concern. In China, Western analgesic medicine are usually not accepted by patients. Comparatively, with variety of treatment methods, Chinese medicine are more popular.However. references and research on lumbar postoperative recovery promoted by Chinese medicine are limited, leading to the lack of systematic understanding and guidance Moreover, curative effect evaluation lacks uniform quantization standard.Based on the clinical experience of treating Residual disease after lumbar surgery with tao hong si wu tang (a Chinese medicine prescription), JOA (Japandese Orthopedic Association)、VAS (Visual analogue scales) and TCM symptom score are used to study the effectiveness of tao hong si wu tang on treating Residual disease after lumbar surgery.1.2Clinical data1.21Case SourceSixty patients of Residual disease after lumbar surgery from Wangjing Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, who were all consistent with entry criteria, were enrolled in this study from March2013to February2014.1.22General formationSixty patients were involved in this study. Decompression laminectomy. Remove nucleus pulposus and Screw fixation were adopted to them. Among30patients of the testing group,14cases were male and16cases were female.Their average age was56.6, ranging from47to72and their average course of disease was16.5months, ranging from1month to4years.13Lumbar Disc Herniation patients,7Lumbar Spinal Stenosis patients, and7Lumbar spondylolisthesis patients are studied. Among30patients of Control group,12cases were male and18cases were female. Their average age was58.9, ranging from45to74and their average course of disease was15.4months, ranging from1month to54months.15Lumbar Disc Herniation patients,9Lumbar Spinal Stenosis patients and6Lumbar spondylolisthesis patients are studied.1.3Methods Sixty quinquagenarian patients who were consistent with entry criteria were randomly divided into two groups according to the admission time sequence:thirty patients are in the test group, the others are in the control group. The same Postoperative treatment.Nursing and rehabilitation guidance(Postoperative treatment includes anti-inflammatory and rehydration) were taken into the both groups, after two weeks, take the stitches out of the wound. In test group, Chinese traditional medicine based on tao hong si wu tang, which were were given for two consecutive weeks. No treatment on the control group were adopted.1.4results1.41Baseline comparisonThere are not apparently statistical differences between the test and control groups in age, sex, course of disease, scores of signs and symptoms pretherapy.1.42VAS comparisonBy rank(p<0.01) test, there’s significant difference of improvement of the comparison of VAS score between the test group and the control group after one or two week.By rank(p>0.05) test, there’s little significant difference of improvement of the comparison of VAS score between the test group and the control group at follow-up time. The comparison of differences of VAS score in the testing and the control group before and after treatment after two week shows significant statistical difference through t test (p>0.05).1.43JOA comparisonBy t(t=, p<0.01) test, there is significant difference of improvement of the comparison of JOA score between the test group and the control group at all observation time. The comparison of differences of JOA score in the testing and the control group before and after treatment after one week shows significant statistical difference through t test (t=, p<0.01)1.44efficacy comparisonObvious statistic treatment differences exist. The total fine rate and the total effciency of the testing group is73.4and100%respectively, while the control group is50%and96.66%.1.5ConclusionThe clinical study suggests that Tao hong si wu tang in treating Residual disease after lumbar surgery shows significant effect and the effective rate is73.4%.
