The first part is reviewed, from traditional Chinese and western medicine for knee osteoarthritis conclusion, we research and introduces the acupuncture treatment knee osteoarthritis clinical progress. Conclusion:The modern acupuncture in knee osteoarthritis treatment methods are various, a single therapy and comprehensive therapy will be widely applied, and achieved significant clinical curative effect. But there are some shortcomings in the design of clinical trials and there should become more standardized clinical research in the future to make more convincing results.The second part is the efficacy observation.Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of the conventional acupuncture on knee osteoarthritis(KOA).Methods:Thirty cases of KOA were treated with the fire needle therapy at Ashi, Dubi(ST35),Neixiyan,Heding,Yanglingquan(GB34). The fire needle therapy lasted for4weeks(at2times each week).At the end of treatment,the follow-up visit lasted for4weeks. The Western Ontario and McMaster Univerdities osteoarthritis index(WOMAC) and visual analogue scale(VAS) were adopted for the efficacy assessments of the patients.Results:Of30cases,27cases accomplished the trial.The data of the lost cases were included in the final data analysis.At the end of4-week treatment and the follow-up visit,every score in VAS and WOMAC was decreased apparently(P<0.001, P<0.05).Conclusion:The fire needle therapy reduces the joint pain for the patient with KOA and improves the joint function.The4-week follow-up visit indicates that the efficacy of acupuncture is still sustained.
