As the famous expert of China in the field of anorectal subjects,professor Tian Zhenguo has more than forty years of clinical experienceand teaching, and does a wonderful job in diagnosis and treatment ofanorectal disease. Especially about the diagnosis and treatment of senileconstipation with traditional Chinese medicine, who has flown his owncolours and received very good clinical effect.Senile constipation is a common disease in clinic which is causedby a variety of reasons, and its incidence rate increases year by year.Because of the serious bad influence on the old people’s normal life andhealth, Senile constipation has caused the attention of a growing numberof physicians in recent years.In traditional Chinese medicine, Senile constipation belongs to"constipation", which is a disease of the colon (large intestine). Thedisease is closely related to the dysfunction of the zang-fu organs, suchas lung, spleen, stomach, liver, kidney, etc. The principal pathogenesisof Senile constipation is the conduction of bowel defilade. Generally,Constipation can be divided into real syndrome and deficiency syndromein traditional Chinese medicine, and the Treatment based on syndromedifferentiation is always on the basis of these two aspects.Professor Tian Zhenguo examines the card to ask during the clinicaltreatment, and points out that senile constipation is mostly caused bydeficiency syndrome, just a small part by real syndrome. Physicians shouldgive full consideration to the elderly people during the clinicaltreatment, because of their special constitution factors. He opposes tothe treatment with Long-term use and large doses of cathartic, and praisesthe value of nourishing Yin and Yang, and tonifying qi and blood, theclinical curative effect is obvious. Guided by the characteristic theory of TCM, he attaches great importance to inheritance and innovation, andcreated his own prescriptions through his clinical experience, which ispraised a lot. At the same time, he emphasizes the importance of selfregulating, and points out that both prevention before disease rises andrecovery from illnesses are meaningful. This article is a summary of theacademic and clinical experience for the treatment of senile constipationof professor Tian Zhenguo.
