Constipation is a frequently encountered disease. The increasing number of the people with constipation due to people's elevated living standard,present diet structure and quickening tempo of modern life. Along with the problem of population aging, the patient with senile constipation will be more and more. It can severely impair the quality of life and the health of aged people. To face with the huge group of senile constipation, it is necessary to attach importance to the research and treatment of senile constipation increasingly, provide effective treatments and improve the quality of life.The etiopathogenisis and the pathogenesy of senile constipation are indefinite at present, so the Western medicine is short of the specificness causal treatment. It is a important and valuable study to develop the traditional Chinese medicine treatment according to syndrome differentiation in the characteristic treatment of constipation.Adviser A-yue An has affluent treatment experience in senile constipation with the Traditional Chinese Medicine according to syndrome differentiation. The article was arranged to three parts: to look back on the origin and development of the Traditional Chinese Medicine in constipation; to related the morden research of Western medicine and to ecent advances in clinically treatment. We sum up the adviser An's dialectical main points,principle of treatment and the characteristic potion with the combination of the summary and one years'experience to propose that traditional Chinese medicine treatment according to syndrome differentiation in the treatment of constipation will be the development direction. It will establish the base of next research and generalization.
