This article starts with the phenomenon of a "losing marketplace lifestyle",and further discusses the relationship between people and their living space in themarketplace. By interviewing and investigating the underclass living conditions inHangzhou, I brought about the notion of "Marketplace Living"-the exploration ofsuch typical marketplace living space allows me to understand its characteristicsand underlying pattern. Furthermore, this article summarizes the uniquearchitectural language found in the marketplace, criticizes the gap between thenaturally formed city and the designed city, and interprets the concepts of"dullness" and "richness" from the architectural phenomenology, as well as theirmanifestation in the marketplace living space. Lastly, the article justifies thatthe way to revitalize the marketplace and its lifestyle is to redesign them the waythey naturally evolve, thus the ideas of "subtle difference" and "details mitigatemassiveness" are proposed.
