Acknowledgement has been academically made that as one particular stratum, the literati inMing and Qing dynasty who were living in regions south of the Yangtze River had played asignificant role in contributing to the development of the art of park, architecture and interiordesign. Nevertheless, the study where literati can read and learn and cultivate their minds, whichwere necessary to those who lived in that period haven’t gotten enough attention from the designfield. Based on this situation, this text’s taking the study design of the literati living in regionssouth of the Yangtze River in Ming and Qing dynasty as the research object. And several methodshave been used during the research, for instance, fieldwork, reading documents and analyzingcases. On the basis of summarizing the development of the study design of these literati, thisdissertation has made a detailed analysis of classic works and main examples of the study designof these literati. And then the text summarizes the features of the study design systematically,among which, the recognition, uses and values and tastes of the study design are included. Andwhen it comes to practice, it means the location, architecture, environment, space, decoration,signboards, furniture and the display of study. The dissertation ends up drawing the conclusionabout the accomplishment and significance of study design of the literati living in regions of theYangtze River in Ming and Qing dynasty. Through the researching, hope it would bring somebeneficial assistance and enlightenment to contemporary architecture interior design.
