Women’s clothes are an important basis to interpret fashion trends. Over time there have beenstudies about the regulation of its development, to which researchers tend to focus on the style anddecorative layout changes, while ignoring the differences in patters reflecting the change in time. For instance, during the reign of the Republic of China, Shanghai-the cultural and economic centre-experienced the rapid development of the fashion industry, and at the same time was the basis forthe development of fashion throughout China. As such, this study focuses on Shanghai, from1927to1937through a number of well-known images of women in the Shanghaifashion scene, particularly in The Young Companion and Linlong Women’s Magazine, and the “star effect”, ananalysis of the unique historic period of fashion trends. From this, we can see the historical contextof fashion trends and designs in this decade, from simple to complex and single to multi-elemental.
