The Research On The Dialect Words Of Modern Chinese Dictionary (the Sixth Edition)

Dialect, an important source of Mandarin vocabulary system, is constantly changing. Therefore, criterion problems of the dialect words are hot topics of academic discussion. As a prescriptive dictionary to promote Mandarin and Chinese standardization, the Modern Chinese Dictionary has incorporated some common dialect words and meanings. The sixth edition of Modern Chinese Dictionary was comprehensively revised and published by the Commercial Press in June2012.The paper chooses the dialect words of Modern Chinese Dictionary (the6th Edition) as the research object and collects all the dialect words in the Modem Chinese Dictionary (the6th Edition) which marks<方>. First of all, the author does the static research on the syllable, the morphemic structure, meaning, parts of speech, the distributing of semantic-regimentation and dialect region. Second, we compare the dialect words of the6th edition with the5th edition, trying to understand the changes and development of two editions and find the existing problems of Modern Chinese Dictionary collecting dialect words. The paper is structured as follows:Introduction: it introduces the research background, the significance, the research meathods and the material explanation.Chapter one:the static description of the dialect words in the Modern Chinese Dictionary (the6th Edition). We count the number of the words and meanings marked<方>, and then analyse the syllable, the morphemic structure, meaning, parts of speech. the distributing of semantic-regimentation, dialect region and other characteristics.Chapter two:the comparison of the dialect words between the6th Edition and the5th Edition of Modern Chinese Dictionary. The fisrt section is the description of the adjustment and development of two editions of dialect words. The changes are broadly divided into the following parts:new dialect words and meanings; the deleted dialect words and meanings; the changed dialect words and meanings, including the revision of phonetic notation, definition, character pattern, and the nature. The second section is to analyze whether the dialect words the Modern Chinese Dictionary (the6th Edition) collected is reasonable by examples. The third section is to explain why the two editions were changed and developed on the basis of the social and cognitive perspective. Chapter three: it discusses which principles should be guided when the Modern Chinese Dictionary collects dialect words and then the author makes several suggestions for later revision.Chapter four: it summarizes the main idea of this paper.
