Adverb is a kind of Chinese function words, it uses widely and frequently, andits function and usage is complicated. Adverb is troublesome for international studentswho learn Chinese as a second language. Modal adverbs, for instance, could havedifferent meanings and could be used in any positions of the sentences (e.g. in asentence, it can be placed at the beginning of the sentence and it also can be used afterthe subject as well), and hence the significance and the usage of which are both verydifficult to master. This paper chooses South Korean students as the object of study. Itmainly focused on the students’ learning mistakes and analyzes the reason of themistakes to put forward the teaching strategy of modal adverbs in “emphasiscategory”adverb for students. The paper is a corpus-based study and it combined withthe use of appropriate grammar theories and language acquisition theories. The finalresult is given through the analysis of meanings and differentiation of the modaladverbs in “emphasis category” adverb, which could provide theoretical basis forteaching in the future. The paper is divided into four parts. The first part mainlyintroduces the reasons why chosen the topic, domestic research status, researchcontents and corpus sources, methodology could be used in the analysis and researchsignificance. The second part is under the guidance of interlanguage theory, contrastanalysis theory and second language acquisition theory. Using corpus retrieval method,errors analysis method and statistical analysis method to find the distribution and formabout mistakes of South Korean students by the use of modal adverbs in “emphasiscategory” adverb. The third part studies on the reasons why South Korean students arepersecuted by the use of modal adverbs in “emphasis category” adverb in the learningprocess. The fourth part is aimed at acquainting teaching strategies to solve theproblems in learning process as mentioned previously. The conclusion part follows themain body of this paper, it summarizes the contents of the paper and points out theinadequacies of this paper.
