The experts always debate that whether it’s meaningful to put the modern and contemporary literature in teaching materials of teaching Chinese as a second language. Some experts considered that literature cannot take an role in training the students’ability of language communication, meanwhile, some other experts considered that literature is plays an important role in teaching Chinese as a second language, not only for its close reasoning, but also for its beautiful writing style.As the major of teaching Chinese as a second language develops rapidly, teaching materials those were chosen by the universities are more and more various. At the same time, modern and contemporary literature become more and more important in teaching materials, what’s more, those chosen teaching materials are mainly in such as Boya Chinese, The Road to Success, Advanced Chinese Course and so on. About this, the writer take the consider that in advanced stage of teaching Chinese as a second language, the modern and contemporary literature not only offers quite a number of language input materials which can raise the students’ interests in Chinese, and promote the students’understanding in target language. Meanwhile, modern and contemporary literature owns important significances in teaching and cultures.The thesis is based on the modern and contemporary literature that in two set of teaching materials those are Boya Chinese(midd\e rank and high-ranking) and Advanced Chinese Course, mainly put to use methods of theoretical considerations, statistics, research and analysis, to research, analyze, summarize the features of backgrounds, language and thoughts of writers. What’s more important, the thesis also did many researches on meanings of teaching and cultures that the chosen modern and contemporary literature has shown. The research found that Boya Chinese have mainly chosen the contemporary literary works and owns three selected standards. Firstly is that writers have been chosen in a quite wide range, while secondly, writing themes are plentiful enough. Last but not the least, contents of the works are followed in order and advance step by step. Meanwhile, Advanced Chinese Course also owns three standards, which the first is that works should have literariness; the second is the writers who have been chosen must have considerable influence. What’s more, the chosen works should own important positions and far-reaching significances in the history of literature.With the rapid development of the study of teaching Chinese as a second language, quantities of foreign students that come to China to have further study are also increased year by year. The compilation of advanced stage of teaching materials in teaching Chinese as a second language should be make-up and improved based on the facts of students’ study situations in recent years.Teaching materials play an important role in learning the second language, the thesis did researches in modern and contemporary literature in a full range and multi-angle in Boya Chinese and Advanced Chinese Course. Furthermore, the thesis has put forward reasonable suggestions in revise plan of these two set of teaching materials, which are according to the existing research results.
