The Semantic System Of Chinese Idioms And Further Application Research

Idiom is the cream of the Chinese classical literature. It remainsunshakable and enjoys even more tremendous popularity due to itsharmonious tonality, simple forms and abundant implied meanings.The research of Chinese idiom has alway been the major topic ofdebate and scholars make every effort to explore this hot topictheoretically and practically. There has already been numerousachievements in Chinese idiom research, however, most of which arefocused on certain domains and the researches about the connectionof theories and practical examples are relatively insufficient. Besides,there has been no achievement about researching idioms by usingknowledge of Logic Calculus.According to these academic insufficiency, the author hasfinished certain research and it is where this thesis comes. In Chapter2, the author analysed the Chinese language test paper of CollegeEntrance Examination between2009and2013, referring to the8382Chinese idioms collected in “Xinhua Chinese Idioms Dictionary”. Thethesis treated the question in some detail such as contrast betweenmonosemy and polysemy, contrast between synonymy and antonymy. Meanwhile, the author tried very best to ensure that the research isreasonable. In Chapter3, application of Chinese Idioms werediscussed in great details. In the first subsection of Chapter3, theauthor take examples to analyze the reason why there are “idiomswith different meanings”and “idioms with different pronunciations”.In the second subsection of Chapter3, the author classified andgeneralized common mistakes made in finishing those ChineseLanguage testing papers. Based on these, the author analyzeddifferent types of idioms semantics by combining semantical systemof Chapter2; therefore, a further conclusion is accomplished. InChapter4, the author utilized certain theories of Logic Calculus toexplore the idiom field, looking forward to emerge a deeperunderstanding of idiom semantics. It is considered that this thesiswould provide some reasonable advices and help others getting amore all-round comprehension on Chinese idioms.
