E-C Interpretation Report For "Obama’s And Cameron’s Joint Press Conference"

The material of the interpretation project is the joint press conference held by Britain Prime Minister Cameron and US President Obama when Cameron visited US on March14,2012. First of all, the author had an E-C simulation simultaneous interpreting of the joint press conference and then did a dictation of the joint press conference and the record of the author’s interpreting. Finally, by analyzing the interpreting text of the E-C simulation simultaneous interpreting, the author has found that simultaneous interpreting such press conference has the following two problems:(1) Information cannot be interpreted accurately and completely;(2) The requirement of immediacy cannot be met.From the perspective of interpretive theory, this report has explored the effective strategies for solving that two problems by using some examples in the simulation simultaneous interpreting and creatively proposed that interpretive transformation as well as interpretive division and recombination is helpful to solve the problem of interpreting the information accurately and completely while application of four-Chinese characters based on interpreting sense and interpretive syntactic linearity being helpful to solve the problem of meeting the requirement of immediacy.This report argues that the quality of simultaneous interpreting is directly determined by the encyclopaedic knowledge on economy, politics, culture and society accumulated by interpreters but interpreters’ application of such interpreting skills as interpretive transformation, interpretive division and recombination, application of four-Chinese characters based on interpreting sense and interpretive syntactic linearity skillfully can effectively enhance the quality of simultaneous interpreting.
