The usage of simultaneous interpreting in various fields has drawn my attention for a long time, which is exactly the origin of this thesis. In the20th century a time-saving method-simultaneous interpreting began to become the efficient assistance in numerous international conferences. Mostly due to its prominent characteristic the helpful aid to multi-lingual communications in different occasions. Then the soaring development of technology made the media interpreting possible, in fact, this have not been done for decades. Now media enterprises equipped with this secret weapon grab the TV rating and make great profits. And programs using simultaneous interpreting were not constrained in News any more, but also developed into entertaining ones. However the study of entertaining media interpreting was not boomed as the study of media interpreting did. One reason is lacks of corpus does hamper the development of this study, and meanwhile although the research of media interpreting has outnumbered the research of conference interpreting (according to CNKI2004-2013, studies themed in’entertaining media interpreting’are1014in total;’conference interpreting’are738in total), the mainstream still stays within the conference interpreting, which can be proved though some popular topics like ’the press conference of NPC/CPPCC categorized into media interpreting actually derivatives of conference interpreting in substance.This dissertation is designed to do its bit to enrich the content of related study. Case studies of54,55,56Grammy Awards’simultaneous interpreting, which represents the entertaining media interpreting, is centered in analysis on translation features of Grammy interpreting, flanked with analysis on corpus characteristics of Grammy and strategies. To make good preparation a9375-word transcription based on the live simultaneous interpreting of Grammy (downloaded via internet) is accomplished. For the analysis of the digitized audio data, PRAAT, a computer program especially developed and designed for speech analysis by Paul Boersma and David Weenink from the Phonetic Sciences Department of the University of Amsterdam has been used. With sorting out the data analysis on translation features in three parts of Grammy interpreting was made and concrete details, examples were cited, and two general translation features’utilize original audio sound’,’utilize team work’were summed up. Considering the crucial role that criteria of quality. plays in evaluation four basic strategies were drawn from Grammy live record to improve the first impression left in audience. In the end conclusion and some pieces of advice for further study on entertaining media interpreting were proposed.The whole thesis is aimed at empirical conclusion so the translation features and strategies explained in the dissertation can be applied in practice. The thought of this thesis can be a bold attempt exploring new way to do research on entertaining media interpreting.
