Since its first introduction into TV broadcasting back in1960s, simultaneous interpreting (SI) has become a new trend in international news service for its instantaneity and simultaneity. The academic community has reached a consensus that TV SI has distinctive features as compared to conference SI. This paper selects five pieces of video material from each category, transcripts them and builds a small bilingual corpus.Observation of and statistics from the corpus show that the speed of speakers affects "delivery" and "content" of TV/conference SI differently. TV interpreters have to make a tradeoff between good delivery performance and accurate and intact content, which leads to different interpreting technics and strategies. Despite variances in TV SI performance, a comparison among the original texts, translated texts and interpreted texts of TV SI corpus reveals an overall simplification and explicitation trend in TV SI.
