A Report On The Translation Of The Product Manager’s Survival Guide By Steven Haines

This is a report about the translation of Chapter1and Chapter2of TheProduct Manager’s Survival Guide written by Steven Haines. Altogether thetranslation report is divided into four parts, the first of which is a description of thetranslation project that includes an introduction to Steven Haines, the background ofthe translation project, the main contents of the source text and the significance ofthe project. The second part involves an analysis of the source text which iscomposed of something of its stylistic as well as language features. It also containsan observation of the difficulties met and strategies employed in the process oftranslation and preparations made in efforts by the translator to accomplish her work.The third part is related to the translation skills, and some examples concerned aregiven to make the statement fledged. The last part draws a conclusion of theexperiences and lessons gained by the translator, together with the problemsremaining to be solved.From the perspective of Newmark’s theory of communicative translation andwith her own translation experience, the translator endeavored in the project to studythe guiding role of communicative translation theory in the translation of informativetexts, and tried her best to demonstrate the applicability of some relevant translationstrategies.
