This thesis is a report on the translation of Statistical Aspects in ICH, FDA, and EMA Guidelines, the first part of Statistics in the Development of Pharmaceutical Products (SDPP). Through statistical analysis of words and sentences in the source text, the thesis has discovered that the lexical features involve wide application of technical terms, sub-technical terms and nominalization, and that the syntactical features involve frequent use of passive sentences and long sentences. Under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s text theory and the principles of semantic translation and communicative translation, and by taking into consideration the stylistic features of the source text, the thesis has selected such translation methods as sequential-word-order translation, meaning-extension translation and conversion for the translation of words, and conversion, sequential method, inversion method, replacement method and comprehensive method for the translation of sentences. The translation practice proves that the informative nature of the source text deserves communicative translation, and that the translation methods selected in accordance with this principle has contributed to the faithfulness and fluency of the translated text.
