This is a translation project report on (“How the Free Flow of InformationLiberates and Constrains Us”, the second chapter) of The Future ofReputation---Gossip, Rumor and Privacy on the Internet written by Daniel J. Solove.It discusses the significant effects on personal reputation by the wide use of SocialNetwork Site (SNS) in depth. According to the Reiss’ classification of text type, thesource text belongs to the informative one. In the translation, the translator followsthe principle of authenticity,along with the strategy of communicative translation,focusing on the target text reader’s acceptance to secure the target text reader get thesame effects as the source text reader does.This report includes five parts. Firstly, it introduces the background, content andsignificance of the project. Secondly, it analyzes the source text. Thirdly, thetranslation principle and strategy, the key point and difficult point have been stated.In the fourth part, it illustrates the terms and slangs, and the specific translationmethods application such as supplement and split. And in the last part, the conclusionis drawn.
