| GUO shuzhen is a famous Chinese soprano who makes great contribution to the development of our country’s vocal music. This thesis studies the contribution of Guo Shuzhen to the development of music based on her life in each period. I first study the growth path of Guo Shuzhen, and conclude that Guo’s distinguished contribution is highly related to her experience as a youth, based on evidence of her love to music as a child, the atmosphere of music in her family, as well as the great efforts Guo has taken during her school years abroad. Besides, as a music educator, Guo has earned her reputation by creating several number of ’first one’ in China, such as the first soprano who studied in Soviet Union, the first soprano who published personal album. Her performance of "Huanghe Yuan" is spoken highly by media and music reviewers, and there is still no one that is competent to compete with her even today. Moreover, we cannot neglect the contribution Guo Shuzhen has made in music education. She educated a great number of singers for our country, and all of her students are active in stage. Guo’s achievement in vocal education is due to her responsible attitude and patience for students. She discovered several potentially excellent performers who were on the wrong track before meeting her, and saved their career. Guo also published a paper titled "Issues of Vocal Judgment and Training", which attracts great attention from music learners and lovers. Based on the facts that the development of opera in our country is still on an early stage, Guo helped to set up the Central Music College Opera Centre which is a cradle for talents in opera and a stage for opera lovers.Guo Shuzhen is one of the leading character in the development of vocal music in China.
