The dissertation discusses the characteristics, value and limitation of Eileen Chang’s writing in exile in a view of exile comparatively.Firstly, the very paper uses Edward W.Said’s theory of double perspective about exiles to describe the perspective of Eileen Chang’s writing in exile,namely Eileen Chang’s dual perspective which is contemplating China according to the Unite States Experience and surveying the Unite States against Chinese experience,which Edward W.Said puts it,the exiles can always compare a kind of experience with another kind of experience,therefore can not bound by any kinds of ideas,and explore the issue in a more comprehensive way.Based on the double perspective,Eileen Chang’s writing in exile is divided into two kinds.One kind is closed observation of the various phenomenon of American society as a marginal writer from China.Another is careful observation of the various phenomenon of Chinese society as a exiled writer in the Unite States. Secondly,the paper explores uniqueness of Eileen Chang’s dual perspective.She had always wandered in the world as a person who was experiencing all sorts of hardships and superior to the authority,being marginalized,neither showing no sign of arrogance, nor a sense of inferiority, So she experienced various feelings that had never been tasted by the people who conform traditional ideas.In china,when people worshiped western culture,she had been committed to writing the relationships between people which is only faith of Chinese people,lamenting the shaken relationships that was impacted by western science and democracy tide regardless of western culture.After exiled to the United States,Eileen Chang was more eager for such a flavor of Chinese life,but American didn’t like this flavor. They liked Chinese from Lin yu tang’s works who can smooth their lost heart,but Eileen Chang wanted to break the illusion of Americans to China,and sticked to present a more realistic modern China which forever sink into the Atlantic. Finally, the paper expounds the value and limitation of Eileen Chang’s writing in exile.During the exile..because of political, economic reason she constantly rewrote his own works to meet readers’tastes against her will,but she always kept the spirit of an intellectual independence. This is not so much the limitations of Eileen Chang’s writing in exile as survival and writing predicament of exiled writer who can not write something what you want to write,and can not send out the voice of heartThe first part mainly researches exile and writing in exile of Eileen Chang’s,and analyzes background and reason of Eileen Chang’writing in exile as well as survival plight and writing during exile after the end of the second world war and during the early establishment of the new regime,which reveals the specific historic context The second part aims at the type of Eileen Chang’s writing in exile,which is divided into two kinds.One type is closed observation of the various phenomenon of American society as a marginal writer from China.Another is careful observation of the various phenomenon of Chinese society as a exiled writer in the Unite States.The third part discusses the characteristics of Eileen Chang’s writing in exile.On the one hand it compares Eileen Chang’s writing in exile with Eileen Chang’s writing in China,on the other hand it compares Eileen Chang’s writing in exile with Lin yu tang’s writing in exile.The fourth part reveals the value and limitations of Eileen Chang’s writing in exile. Focusing on knowledge, ethics, aesthetics,it emphasizes political and living environment on her writing in exile.
