Sending off criminals to remote areas called exile.In the Qing Dynasty,exile is lighter than death penalty and heavier than imprisonment.Early Qing Dynasty,criminal was exiled to the northeast and Inner Mongolia.Qianlong period,the Qing government unified Western Regions.Xinjiang became the main area of exile.A large number of criminals were sent to Xinjiang.Some of them were knowledgeable officials.During the exile,they wrote many poems describing Western customs and scenery.Some people also compiled the local chronicles.During this period,a large number of excellent Western poetry was created by them.In Jiaqing nine years,Qi Yun Shi was a Mint official.Being involved in the Baoquan corruption case,he was exiled to Yili.On the way of exile,Qi Yunshi created the travel notes Miles trip and the poems Meng chi to record the exile,describe the scenery along the way.Arriving at Yili,Qi Yunshi was attended by the General of Yili Song Yun.Song Yun ordered Qi Yunshi to be responsible for YiliZongTongShiLue.During the editorial period,Qi Yunshi completed some private works.Such as the Concise Description of the West Area,the Interpretation of Western Geography and History,the Bamboo Branch Poems of Western.In childhood,Qi Yunshi was very interested in history.He used to be an official who responsible for writing history.Therefore,he had the opportunity to see the royal collection books.Qi Yunshi is very familiar with the historical geography of the Western Regions.In his poems,there are many descriptions of historical and geography.His poems show the characteristics of scholars.In Yili for three years,Qi Yunshi participated actively in the work of editing history books.In the process of writing,he went to the field to investigate.Qi Yun Shi advocated that the geographical books should believe in today and prove the ancient.This point of view made a significant contribution to Change the narrow style of study in Qianjia period and to promote the rise of practical thought of Northwest Historical Geography in Late Qing Dynasty.Qi Yunshi's Western poetry has a unique style.Although they have begun to be studied,but have not been given enough attention.Academics have attached importance to the historical achievements of Qi Yun Shi.But they have ignored Qi Yunshi's literary contribution.Therefore,this article will focus on Qi Yun poetry,combining with the fate of exile officials in the Qing Dynasty,to research Qi Yunshi's literary creation during the exile and to explore the characteristics of scholars,the creative psychology of exile officer and contribution to the History and Geography of the Northwest.The purpose of the paper is to make a comprehensive study of Qi Yunshi's exile poems and writings.This paper is divided into six parts.The first part introduces the research objective,research significance and previous studies of Qi Yunshi and the exile poems.The second part focuses on Qi Yunshi's experience,trying to explore his interest in history.Combining with the social background,the third part surmises the process of reunifying the Western Regions and the evolution of the exile in the Qing Dynasty and briefly introduces exile officer's life in Xinjiang,providing the basis knowledge for the introduction below.The fourth part introduces the main content and artistic value of Qi Yunshi's travel notes Miles trip.The fifth part analyzes the poems created by Qi Yunshi in exile,exploring the creative psychology as an exile officer.The sixth part thoroughly studies geographic books of Qi Yunshi and explores the important and profound influence to the latter experts who devoted oneself to studying the northwest history-geography by Qi Yunshi.
