Influenced by Chinese traditional philosophy,hermit culture is a special cultural phenomenon in China,which exists a long cultural thought evolution process.The bondage of royal power was weakened after the Han dynasty,especially the eastern Han dynasty.Then the hermit's team has grown and hermit culture has also developed.At first,the atmosphere of hermit appeared in the field of literature and then influenced painting and other fields.Hermit culture was popular during the period of the Wei,Jin and Yuan dynasties.The rapid development of hermit culture and painting style attracted many later literati.The literati in the Ming and Qing dynasties participated in politics actively,and there were fewer people in seclusion for lifetime.However,because of the influences of political,economic,culture and ideological,a majority of literati had the idea of hermit.The hermit style of this period not only had a great impact on the time,but also had a significant influence on future generations.The conceptions of hermit in this time are worth be explored.The paper begins with the historical changes of the hermit culture and the social background of the Ming and Qing dynasties.Focusing on the hermit artists and exploring the ideas and themes in paintings,analyzing the characteristics of the images in their paintings and the meaning behind the specific patterns.Different from previous related papers,this article not only analyzes the themes and expressions of the hermit artworks of the Ming and Qing artists,but also focus on the relationship between the hermit artworks and themselves.Focusing on personal experience to explore the painter's life in order to tracing the specific origins of the hermit ideas of the Ming and Qing artists and providing a new perspective for us.
