College English reading teaching is a vital part of the English teaching system.How to construct effective teaching? This paper explores integration of explicit andimplicit teaching in college English reading.In recent years,many scholars discuss the influence of the implicit and explicitknowledge on the development of second language acquisition in foreign languageteaching,from the perspectives of the concept and measures of implicit and explicitknowledge. Opinions vary as to how to enhance students’ reading ability in languageteaching. What is more, little research is made concerning the functions of implicitand explicit knowledge in English reading comprehension, while the practicalapplication of explicit knowledge in college English reading comprehension is notenough.Based on this theory, the paper surveys the current status of implicit andexplicit knowledge currently available to college students, from the perspective ofempirical methods, and combined with the integration of implicit and explicitteaching methods. With its application in the college classroom reading, the paperverifies level of improvement of reading ability of the students. Meanwhile, theauthor investigated and analyzed the learners’ reading level, reading strategiesapplied and changes of learners’ attitude. Therefore, this paper focuses on three questions:(1) Does explicit knowledge teaching in reading comprehension class improvestudents’ comprehension proficiency?(2) Does implicit knowledge teaching in reading comprehension class play a positiverole in students’ reading strategies?(3) Can students’ autonomous learning be promoted by integration of ExplicitTeaching and Implicit Teaching?The paper takes169freshmen from four classes of Harbin Cambridge Collegeas the object in the trial.The object completed two reading comprehension testcontaining four articles and questionnaires and talks for quantitative analysis.Afteranalyzing the data by SPSS18.0,the paper concluded the following experimentalresults subjective and objective consciousness.Both the explicit and implicit knowledge can improve students’ reading ability.However, integration of them is more significant than the former approach; in themeanwhile, learning efficiency of college students is also affected by their subjectiveconsciousness and objective behavior.The thesis can be future reference concerning integration of explicit and implicitteaching in college English reading, and it also provides effective learning methodsfor improvement of reading ability of college students....
