In secondary vocational schools,professionalism and practicality are main characteristics of oral English course which is closely related to students' future careers.Therefore,oral English teaching becomes one of the key teaching tasks in vocational schools.However,most students' oral English is not so satisfactory and one-prominent problem with their oral English is frequent pragmatic failures.Therefore,how to reduce the pragmatic failures in oral English of these students becomes one of the urgent problems to be solved.Based on the related theory of pragmatics,this research aims to answer the following questions:(1)What is main type of pragmatic failures in oral English of secondary vocational school students?(2)Are the explicit teaching method and the implicit teaching method effective to reduce pragmatic failures in oral English of secondary vocational school students?(3)If both methods can work,which teaching method is more effective in reducing pragmatic failures in oral English of secondary vocational school students?(4)Which teaching method can arouse the students' interest in learning more easily?Mainly by adopting empirical study,this research chooses tourism majors in grade one from a secondary vocational school in Fuzhou city as the research subjects and conducts a three-month experiment to compare the effect of the two methods.By analyzing the data gained through questionnaires and tests,the research comes to some conclusions:(1)Pragmatic failures in oral English of secondary vocational school students are dominated by social-pragmatic failures.(2)Both explicit teaching method and implicit teaching method can reduce pragmatic failures in oral English of secondary vocational school students.(3)Compared with the implicit method,the explicit method is more effective in reducing pragmatic failures in oral English.(4)The implicit method can arouse the students' interest in learning more easily.At last,the research offers a few teaching suggestions with the hope of reducing pragmatic failures of secondary vocational school students and giving reference to oral English teaching in secondary vocational schools.
