The Curriculum Standard of English for Senior High Schools proposes that language knowledge and skills are the critical content of cultivating students’ comprehensive foreign language application ability,and language knowledge is the foundation.It means that vocabulary is very important in senior high school.Through the study of relevant literature,most scholars take college students as the research subjects and focus on grammar field.Therefore,based on this current situation,this study explores the application of the integration of explicit and implicit vocabulary teaching in senior high school English vocabulary teaching.Based on the context and depth of processing theory,this study aims to solve the problems arising from the integrative vocabulary teaching method through action research with taking class 3,grade 1 X Senior High School students as the research subjects.This study will focus on the following questions:(1)How do teachers design English vocabulary lesson with the integration of explicit and implicit vocabulary teaching in Senior High School?(2)What are the influences of the integration of explicit and implicit vocabulary teaching on students’ vocabulary learning strategies?(3)What are the influences of the integration of explicit and implicit vocabulary teaching on students’ vocabulary learning interests?In this study,two rounds of action research which lasted three months were conducted by using questionnaire,interview and test.Before conducting the first round of action research,the students were surveyed and tested,and the teachers were interviewed to find problems of students’ vocabulary learning and vocabulary teaching.Then,the first round of action research was carried out.After finishing the first round of action research,the author reflected on problems of integrative method based on interviews with students.The teaching plan was adjusted according to problems found from interview.After finishing two rounds of action research,the students were surveyed by questionnaire and interviewed,and the data was analyzed by SPSS24.0 to obtain the results of action research.After finishing two rounds of action research,three research findings were obtained by analyzing the data and combining with the research questions.(1)It is very important for teachers to design the integration of explicit and implicit vocabulary teaching into senior high school English teaching.The procedures of designing are as follows: First,the teacher creates classroom situations by combining the context theory.Next,the teacher creates the lexical environment by using implicit teaching method and explains the basic rules of words by using explicit teaching method.Then,the teacher provides related implicit practice and explicit practice.Finally,the teacher focuses on the output of vocabulary language.(2)The integration of explicit and implicit vocabulary teaching method can improve students’ vocabulary learning strategies.(3)The learning interest of students can be dramatically improved under the integration of explicit and implicit vocabulary teaching method.Finally,three suggestions were put forward for senior high school English teachers:(1)creating vocabulary context;(2)focusing on students’ vocabulary learning strategies;(3)providing more vocabulary practice chances.And this study is hoped to be helpful to the vocabulary teaching and learning in senior high school.
