| It has been the common recognition for teaching Chinese as the secondlanguage to train the learner’s cross-culture communication ability.Not only the regular teaching but the teaching materials will reflectthis point. Because of the late development of teaching Chinese as thesecond language, there is some gap on compiling idea and details betweenour home teaching textbooks and foreign language textbooks. In this paper,the communicative exercise in two series of language textbooks andexercise books at the primary stage, which are the world-known NewConcept English and the national top New Practical Chinese Reader, willbe studied and compared. Both the quantitative analysis and thequalitative analysis will be employed. The study and analysis will beconducted from the aspect of exercise quantity, exercise types andexercise content. It’s expected to get something useful from thesuccessful experience of New Concept English. We hope the study wi llbring enlightenment to our home teaching materials and make it developin a better way.Through the comparison on these two textbooks and exercise books,the following conclusion will be made to improve the New PracticalChinese Reader: Firstly, more exercise amount shall be added from the beginning. Secondly, the type of communicative exercise shall bedesigned at the core of meaning expression, the information gap shallexist and the restriction shall be reduced. Thirdly, the exercise shallhave clear communicative function, a wide selection of topics and truescene setting. Fourthly, the books shall offer teachers the guide todesign and use communicative exercise as more as possible. |
