This article is entitled “Studies on Han Loanwords”. It presents not only the basicoutlook and features of Han loanwords but also the influence on modern Chinese’sdevelopment during the absorption of Han loanwords.The Introduction discusses the background, significance, research status, theoreticalbasis,research methods and language materials sources in brief.Chapter I introduces the origin of the term "loanwords" firstly. Secondly, itsummarizes the achievements in Chinese loanwords research areas, especially emphasizingon the unresolved, core theoretical issues so far. It deliberately outlines a pertinent extentfor Han loanwords study.Chapter II describes the social circumstance of Han Dynasty in several aspects, suchas politics, economy and culture.Chapter III presents the clear and complete outlook of Han loanwords by usingabundant loanword materials and objective data. This part classifies the loanwords in theaspects of sources, the absorbing ways and meanings and counts quantitatively.Chapter IV shows the features of Han loanwords by analyzing the souces, meanings,the way of absorbing and the inner structure.Chapter V concentrates in Han loanwords’ impact on modern Chinese.The paperstudies the influence on modern Chinese’s vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and way towrite during the absorption of Han loanwords.The last part indicates the meaning of Han loanwords research and the hope to makean effort on completing words’ history.The innovative points of this article: First, Han loanwords Database is established,which is summed up in categories of sources, absorbing ways, meanings, examples.
