A Translation Report On Clan Politics And Regime Transition In Central Asia (Chapter Ⅱ)

This translation task provided by my supervisor, Professor Cui Yanhu is an academicwork mainly discussed the role of clan network in Central Asia from the early twentiethcentury through2004——Clan Politics and Regime Transition in Central Asia. Thewriter’s tasks cover chapter2,4,6and7, which mainly touch on clans in Central Asia,nearly10，5551in total. This translation project will centre on section1and2fromchapter2.This project is composed of four parts. The first part is a brief introduction to thetranslation task, including the original book and its author, the motivation and significanceof this task. The second part is about the translation procedure, concerning somepreparation before the translation, and three major stages of translation. The third part isthe main body, describing three vocabulary difficulties in the process of translating andtheir possible solutions. The fourth part shares the writer’s experience and lessons.In this translation project, the writer translated this task under the principle of “literaltranslation” and “free translation” from Newmark, by means of Nida’s “three steps” intranslation, which are analysis, transfer, and restructuring. Besides, writer presented threeproblems while translating, and meanwhile suggested some possible solutions in the hopeof inducing someone else to come forward with his valuable contributions.
