At the very beginning of the Spring and Autumn Period, the state of Wey was inturmoil made by Zhou Xu, which put the state into the years of unrest. This thesisintends to make a thorough research on the whole events and characters of the ZhouXu Turmoil, putting it closest to the historical truth. The Zhou Xu Turmoil, a tip of the iceberg, can give a vivid reflection of thesovereign-minister relationship and the rituals and customs in the state of Wey, which,in turn, demonstrate their distinguished features in these two aspects. With so manyfatuous and self-indulgent rulers and so many loyal and prominent ministers in thestate of Wey, their deeds and actions all gave a lively description of the rites andrighteousness between the monarchs and their ministers. The state of Wey, an old haunt of the Shang Dynasty, took a majority of theShang citizens under its control. Therefore, both the monarchs and their ministers inthis state were greatly influenced by the biculturalism of the Shang Dynasty and theWest Zhou Dynasty. From the decorous and elegant rites and music in the West ZhouDynasty to the music in the chaotic state of Zheng and Wey, the interstatesrelationships, social customs and the culture of rites and music all exert great impacton the sovereign-minister relationships.
