In the1970s, the "word teaching mode" has been put forward in the world, and it wonthe wide attention by scholars. However, scholars understand the theory with differentemphasis, so there is not any specific definition about "teaching model".This theory in China started late. On the basis of theoretical results, our domesticscholars have made many related research combining with China’s actual situation of allkinds of teaching.Teaching Chinese as a foreign language is a newly developed subject emerging in recentyears. As to enhance Chinas comprehensive national strength and international status, moreand more foreign students come to China to learn Chinese and Chinese culture, and many ofthem want to complete their higher education studies in China. The vigorous development ofteaching Chinese as a foreign language has promoted domestic scholars and front-lineteachers to research into the mode of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Therefore, goodeffect of one-year-preparatory teaching ensures foreign students complete their study inChinese universities for further study. And suitable teaching mode decides good teachingeffect.Preparatory students’ teaching is an important part of teaching Chinese as a foreignlanguage. It is one of the important stages of transition of foreign students to enter the highereducation in colleges and universities in China. During this period, foreign students shouldnot only learn knowledge so as to Chinese and Chinese culture after the study and life, butalso to improve their professional knowledge level, so as to get the average level of highschool graduates in China.This paper summarizes current teaching modes and theories of teaching Chinese as aforeign language. It analysis some status from the questionnaire survey to the students ofPreparatory Department of Northeast Normal University, which aims at exploring effectiveteaching modes to overseas students.
